Sunday Comics

Welcome back to another edition of Sunday Comics.  I do this post every other week to chronicle all the individual comics I've read.  This week is a rather long post, so strap in and enjoy.

Weekly Wrap Up, Book Haul, and Two Week Break

This has been, all in all, a rather good week.  Besides the normal, I finally got my tooth finalized and am now getting used to the crown in there.  Glad that's off my chest.  Also, my mom and I visited one of her good friends, who's a librarian.  My mom and her have been friends since middle school and stay in contact really well.  My moms friend works at probably the nicest library in the area and she gave us a tour of the whole building, including the behind the scenes.  When I say this is a nice library I mean it- they have everything you might want and then some, including rooms just dedicated to YA books, movies, and a studio with a green screen that anyone can use.

Wizards of the Coast Chicago Comic Con 2015 Wrap Up

So I've mentioned I was at the Chicago Comic Con a few times; it's why I wasn't around the blog so much on the weekend.  I had such a blast- it was way better than anything I could have expected, and I just wanted to talk about it here.  This was my first time going to any sort of Con and it was well worth the money and time spent.

Graphic Novel Review: Daredevil Yellow

Author| Jeph Loeb  Artist| Tim Sale  Edition| Kindle eBook  Rating| 3 Stars

This serves as an origin story for the title character.  I've been reading Daredevil stories for about two years (maybe more) now and can safely say he was one of the first real characters that really interested me in comics.  Unfortunately, this was one of my least favorite Daredevil books.

Aug-Sep TBR (YOUTUBE)

This one's pretty self explanatory.  I hope you enjoy it!  I think this is a better angle for the camera and I think it turned out generally better than the last one I did.  Still working out how to do thumbnails (have it figured out now that I've already published the video and too lazy to change this one) and still not the best at keeping eye contact with camera.  Also, editing is a rather horrible experience.  No one ever tells you that when you join youtube :)  Still loving the experience, though.

Sunday TV

Welcome back to Sunday TV!  I do this every other week in order to talk about all the shows I've enjoyed during the past two weeks.  Normally I watch about an episode a day, but lately I've been bingeing everything I'm behind on since I'll be leaving for college very soon.  So, without further ado, here we go.

Weekly Wrap Up and Book Haul and Apology

Let me start with the apology.  I'm leaving for college in a few weeks, and this week has just been very hectic.  Been getting a lot of things I need, spending extra time with my family, and now, this weekend, I'm at comic con pretty much every day (which is why I'm pre-writing this post on Friday). Because I've been busy I haven't read very much, or posted very much.  Or really been active in blogging.  I have tried to respond to all comments and follow links in comments for meme's, but beyond that I've done very little.  Normally I spend time discovering new websites and visiting all the ones I really like so I can comment on their WoW or TTT or F56.  But this week I just didn't, and I'm really sorry if you felt slighted.  I just haven't had the time, and when I have some spare minutes it's either really late or really early and I have no motivation.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Auto-Buy Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  Click here to join in on the fun!

This was another really fun, but really hard theme to do.  There are lots of authors I wish I could say were auto-buy authors, but I just sort of lost track of some of them and are so behind on their books and series I can't buy anymore just to own them.  So here's a list of authors that I will follow to the ends of the earth, no matter what they write.

Sunday Comics

Sunday Comics is something I do every other week to spotlight all the comics I've read recently.  I love talking about comics and, rather than write an individual review for each individual comic I read as I read it, I compile all the reviews here.  If you ever want to know more about a comic series please ask because I'd love to share what I know!

Weekly Wrap Up and Book Haul

I am so tired.  Like, you have no idea.  And that's why this is going up so late today.  The last two days, and today, I haven't been home very much.  My reading has suffered because of it, and I'm really sorry about that.  I've been spending time with extended family and went out to the city today (where I got major sunburn- my face hurts quite a bit) and met with a good friend the other day where we laid out plans for next weekend.

Mini Graphic Novel Review: The Promise (Part One)

Author| Gene Luen Yang  Artist| Gurihiru  Rating| 3.5 Stars
Edition| Kindle eBook

I'm a rather large fan of Avatar, and when this book was on sale several months ago I couldn't resist picking it up and returning to one of my favorite stories.  I was, sadly, rather disappointed.

ARC Graphic Novel Review: ODY-C (ODY-C, #1)

Author| Matt Fraction  Artist| Christian Ward  Rating| 4 Stars
Edition| eGalley courtesy of Image Comics via Netgalley  Release Date| June 16th, 2015

I received a copy of ODY-C from Image Comics via Netgalley for free in exchange for an honest review.

Movie Review: Mission Impossible- Rogue Nation

Starring| Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt), Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), Jeremy Renner (Willaim Brandt), Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn), Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell), Sean Harris (Solomon Lane), Simon McBurney (Atlee), Alec Baldwin (Alan Huntley)
Rating| C

I've been a fan of these movies for some time.  In fact, they're probably my favorite spy movie franchise.  But I did not like this one.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Authors I've Read the Most Books From

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.  Click here to join in on the fun.

This was a really fun one to do, because I was able to actually figure out who I've read the most from.  I was sorta surprised by what I discovered.

Book Review: The Shadowhunters Codex

Author| Cassandra Clare (Twitter/Tumblr), Joshua Lewis  Edition| Hardcover  Rating| --

I'm a super fan of The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices so it's no surprise that I got this book the second it came out.  But it took me a while to read, just because it wasn't a priority.  It's not another story, but rather a companion book that helps show the depth of the world.

Sunday TV

Welcome back to Sunday TV!  I do one of these posts every other week to spotlight all the shows I've been watching.  I also do a Sunday Comics in the weeks I don't do this post.  Basically, I watch so much TV that I want to talk about, but rather than dedicate a little post to each episode or series of episodes, I do this one huge wrap up.  I watch a mix of new and old shows from many different genres and age groups.  Basically, I'm addicted to TV when I'm not reading.

First Youtube Video!!!

You heard me right, I'm on Youtube now!  Major mistake?  I don't know, but I guess we'll find out.  I'd love it if you watched my video and maybe even subscribe to my channel.  I'll be posting every Sunday.  This week is just an intro, get to know me video (and I look really awkward, so I'm sorry about that).  Next week is a bookshelf tour, which I'm very excited to share with you all.  If there's any advice you can give I'd love to hear.

Without further ado...

Weekly Wrap Up and Book Haul

This week has been pretty busy, but I still somehow managed to read a ton.  I've also been writing a bit more than usual, and finally starting to catch up on my tv shows.  Today a bunch of my extended family comes into town, so I'll be heading to the city later to catch up with them.  Tomorrow we're all going to a Cubbies game for my Uncle's fiftieth, so I don't know how active I'll be online.

Book Review: The 100 (The Hundred, #1)

Author| Kass Morgan (Twitter)  Edition| Kindle eBook  Rating| 3 Stars

So I've seen a few episodes from the show, but only a few.  I thought I'd read the book and see how it lined up with what I've watched and whether it was any good.

5 Star Book Review: The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, #3)

Author| Rick Riordan (Facebook/Twitter)  Edition| Hardcover  Rating| 5 Stars
Related Reviews| The Lost Hero | The Son of Neptune

There are SPOILERS for the first two books in this series, so read at your own risk.

What's Next: The Last Red Castle

It's been so long since I've done one of these!  But I'm desperately in need of a new book to read, something that I wouldn't naturally go to next (I have a literal TBR pile of immediate next reads, and it's growing tedious to look at).  If you've not seen one of these posts before, What's Next is a meme hosted by Iceybooks.  Click here for more information, and to join in on the fun.  Basically, though, I put up a couple books I've had sitting around for some time and you guys comment below with your vote.  This time I've got three that have been on my kindle since time immemorial (not really, but you get it).  Drum roll please....

Movie Review: Jurassic World

Starring| Chris Pratt (Owen), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire), Ty Simpkins (Gray), Vincent D'Onofrio (Hoskins), Nick Robinson (Zach)
Rating| A

This movie exceeded all my expectations by far, and I can see why it was the number one movie in the world!  If you haven't seen it, you really should.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Copper Gauntlet

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine.  Click here to join in on the fun.

Movie Review: Mr. Holmes

Starring| Ian McKellen (Sherlock Holmes), Laura Linney (Mrs. Munro), Milo Parker (Roger)
Rating| B

Magneto you're so old!  But seriously, Ian McKellen looked like he was dying in the film, which is what his character is supposed to be doing.  But it was rather strange to see such an icon in such a decrepit form, even if he was just acting.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Fairytale Retellings

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.  Click here to join in the fun.

This week is top ten fairy tale retellings, whether you've read them or not.  Well, I bent the rules a little and actually pulled in a couple of movies.  I love, love, love retellings, though I'm rather picky about choosing ones to read or watch.  Here are my absolute favorites, in order.

Book Review: Fablehaven (Fablehaven, #1)

Author| Brandon Mull (Twitter/Facebook)  Edition| Kindle eBook  Rating| 4.5 Stars

This was technically a re-read for me, but since the first time I read this book was in seventh grade (that's about six years ago) it was like reading it for the first time.  The only thing I remembered was that I liked it a lot, and that the satyrs were funny.  Neither of those facts changed.

Sunday Comics

Sunday Comics is something I do every other week to highlight all the comics I've been reading.  Since getting Marvel Unlimited I haven't been able to put it down.  If you're interested in comics I really recommend getting Marvel Unlimited because it's only ten dollars a month and you get to read not only classic comics but new ones released within the last six months.  It's handy for newcomers and old readers alike.

Weekly Wrap Up and Book Haul

My week was pretty great, book wise.  I spent a lot of time reading, watching book tube, and cruising around author sites.  I read so many books, I blew myself away.  Unfortunately, I think I tired the reading part of brain out for a bit, and don't know how much reading I'll actually get done this week.  It's also projected to be a bit of a busier week, with plans to head into the city on Wednesday.  I'm okay taking a small break from reading because it'll give my brain time to reset.
