I always do an annual reread of this series, but normally I leave this book out. I decided to read this one again because I thought Ansel might be important in the coming novel. As always, I absolutely adore this world, these stories, and this writing. Throne of Glass is one of my absolute favorite series and it never gets old for me.
The Assassin's Blade follows Celaena Sardothien's early days, before she is captured and brought to Endovier, where the first book takes off.
The biggest thing with this book, at least for me, is Sam and Celaena's relationship. The first time I read this collection I wasn't super crazy about the two of them, but that was two years ago, and this time around I was searching every line trying to figure out a way to prove that Sam was still alive. I don't know, my fingers are still crossed (sorta, because WOW that would be a game changer).
I also really liked being able to see where Celaena came from and be able to compare her to the ending of Empire of Storms. She has changed so much, and you can just tell from the first page of this book how much she has matured and grown and I think that's just a beautiful thing that Sarah J Maas has managed to do with her characters.
Also, Leigh Bardugo is totally in this book. Just look for her. YOU'LL FIND HER.
