TV Talk: FOX New Shows

It's been a while since I've done one of these, and for that I'm sorry.  This will also be my last one of the season.  I just kept pushing the date to do this back further and further because book reviews are my most important thing on the blog.  I've done TV Talks for the new shows on ABC, CBS, The CW, and NBC as well.  Click here if you're interested.  So, without further ado, here we go...

5 Star Graphic Novel Review: Seed of Destruction (Hellboy Vol. 1)

Author| Mike Mignola  Edition| Kindle eBook  Rating| 5 Stars

I had no idea what to expect going into this, and it absolutely blew my mind.  I loved it, and I can say that as soon as my bank account allows it, I'll be buying up the whole series at once and binge reading.

Book Review: Shannon in the Lion's Den (Redneck Apocalypse, #.5)

Author| eden Hudson (Twitter)  Edition| Kindle eBook  Rating| 4.5 Stars
Related Reviews| Halo Bound

This is one of my favorite series' ever, and I'm not even sorta kidding.  While this wasn't a direct sequel to Halo Bound, it does serve to fill in some interesting backstory for Colt and Tough's parents.

Sunday TV

Welcome to my first edition of Sunday TV!  If you've been following my blog you've probably noticed something I do every other week called Sunday Comics.  I read a lot of comics so I choose one day to review them all rather than doing an individual post for each.  I watch a lot of TV as well, so I've decided to do a similar thing with individual episodes.  The shows I watch and review will be a mix of older stuff and newer stuff.  This week I have ten episodes to share with you.  There won't be spoilers for anything that's airing a current season, but anything that has since ended, there will be at least some minor spoilers.

Weekly Wrap Up and Book Haul

I've had one very interesting week.  I saw Ant-Man with a friend on Sunday, and then on Wednesday I saw Inside Out with a different friend.  That same day my dog had a small surgery, where they removed a non-cancerous growth on his side that kept opening up.  He's got three stitches now, that for some reason, glow in the dark.  He's being a very good boy and not picking at them at all.  At the movie theater, I also managed to break my tooth, which weighed down the rest of the week a lot.

5 Star Book Review: The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1)

Author| Rick Riordan (Facebook/Twitter)  Edition| Hardcover  Rating| 5 Stars

I have finally, finally read this series!  Yes, it's been a long time coming, but I'm glad I waited.  It's definitely a big change from Percy Jackson, but I think it's a good change and I think Riordan has managed to craft a book that can launch a whole new series very well.

DNF Review: The Storyspinner (The Keepers' Chronicles, #1)

Author| Becky Wallace  Edition| Library Hardcover  Rating| 0/DNF

It's really a shame, because I was so hoping I would enjoy this book.  I remember all the advance praise and early positive reviews it got.  Luckily, I only checked it out of the library and didn't actually buy it.

Movie Review: Ant-Man

Starring| Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Michael Douglas (Dr. Hank Pym), Evangeline Lilly (Hope van Dyne), Corey Stoll (Darren Cross), Bobby Cannavale (Paxton), Michael Pena (Luis)
Rating| B

The newest hero in Marvel's line-up isn't the greatest Avenger, but the movie was a bunch of fun to watch.

So this week I'm a little ashamed... I don't read that many diverse books.  It's not because I avoid them, but I don't exactly seek them out.  Which means that, instead of ten books, I only have five.  So, please, help me out!  Recommend some books that are full of diversity, please!

5 Star Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACoTaR, #1)

Author| Sarah J Maas (Blog/Facebook/Twitter)  Edition| Hardcover  Rating| 5 Stars

Is it really any surprise that I loved this book?  Not only is it written by the same author that brought us Throne of Glass but it's a fairy tale retelling of one of my favorite fairy tales- Beauty and the Beast.

Sunday Comics

Sunday Comics is something I do every other week in order to review and comment on the comics I've recently read.  Since I read so many, and since they're so short, I like to keep them all in one place.  These last two weeks I've read fourteen comics.  I also signed up for Marvel Unlimited.  So far it's been an awesome decision.  At only ten dollars a month I'm able to read a huge amount of comics- recent ones and older ones.  It's wonderful and I really recommend it!

Weekly Wrap Up and Book Haul

Right now there are 70 mph winds and a tornado watch for my area, which is pretty scary.  Honestly, the whole country seems to be suffering from strange weather this summer.  Another storm is brewing- coming from those who have been reading Go Set a Watchman.  I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird but it's my mother's favorite.  I don't know if she plans to read the new book.  I think I will, just to see what makes TKAM a classic and GSAW so hated.

Graphic Novel Review: X-Wing Rogue Squadron (Vol. 1) (Star Wars Legends)

Edition| Kindle eBook  Rating| 3.5 Stars
Authors| Haden Blackman, Michael A Stackpole, Darko Macan, and Mike Baron

Wow this was really confusing.  X-Wing Squadron is certainly not the place to start with Star Wars comics.  Neither the art nor the writing lend themselves towards acclimating the reader, sadly.

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I Recently Bought

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.  Click here to be taken to their website.

I know that this week's theme is ten books to recently come into my possession, but I feel like I just did that in my weekly wrap up and I don't want to repeat that.  So, instead, I'm doing the last ten books I bought in hardcopy.  This gets rid of all the ARC's and galley's I've recently received (there are many) and the abundance of eBooks I've gotten.  In no particular order...

Book Review: Breathe (Sea Breeze, #1)

Author| Abbi Glines (Twitter)  Edition| Kindle eBook  Rating| 2 Stars

I had so many problems with this book, I don't even know where to begin.  My friend recommended this series to me, and I can see why, because there is certainly an addictive element to it.  The way it is written, once you start reading it's really hard to put down.

I'm Back & Weekly Wrap Up and Book Haul

So I'm back after being absent for two weeks!  I really missed the blog and blogging in general and have been itching to come back.  I also managed to get way ahead in my reviewing, so I won't be worrying or stressing about reading any certain number of books.  The vacation was great, and now I'm pumped to get back into everything!
