You may not know this about me, but one of my absolute favorite books in the entire universe is American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I read it two summers ago when I was overseas and fell in love with it. Oftentimes, I could be found devouring this instead of hanging out with the people I had traveled with (I had a digital copy on my phone and would read during meals, particularly breakfast, and, once, when I was at the Eiffel Tower). If you haven't picked this book up, you're seriously missing out.
The premise for the book is that Shadow, a recently released convict, returns home to find a tragedy has left him a leaf in the wind. He runs into a mysterious figure named Mr. Wednesday and ends up working as a pseudo-bodyguard for the imposing figure as he goes on a cross-country journey to collect old debts and get people interested in his unusual mission. To say anything else would give away even one small piece of this book. But, seriously, PICK IT UP!
Not too long ago they announced they would be turning it into a TV show and I'm very, very worried for it. But, at the same time, I'm excited. Those are the pains of being a reader whose beloved book is going onto the screen. The cast and crew seem pretty solid, though, so perhaps I'm leaning a little more towards excited. I thought I'd spotlight the cast to maybe get a bunch of new people excited.
Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon
Ian Shane as Mr. Wednesday
Peter Stormare as Czernobog
Emily Browning as Laura Moon
Sean Harris as Mad Sweeney
Yetide Badaki as Bilquis
Chris Obi as Anubis
Jonathon Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith
Jonathon Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith
Clovis Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya
Mousa Kraish as the Jinn
