Weekly Wrap-Up and Book Haul

This week I just seemed to lose a lot of steam and fall behind on all my blogging and such.  I didn't read very much at all, for one.  For another, I always try to pre-write posts, and I have a planner where I make note of when I want to write them and then when I want to post them, and I'm officially three days behind.  The last few days I didn't write at all, which is also a shame, but I'm not as upset about that because I reached my goal for the month early.  Today this post is getting up late because it was my mother's birthday and I spent all day with her, so I am sorry about that.

In other news, did watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens twice on the day it was released (because, yes, I am that person) and OH MY GOODNESS IT WAS AMAZING YOU MUST GO WATCH IT IF YOU HAVEN'T.  I think that conveys my thoughts pretty well, but I'll be posting a review on Tuesday.  I think I will include spoilers and theories I have in that post, but I'll make sure to note when the spoilers start.

Finished this Week
The only thing I finished this week was the fifth volume of Hawkeye.  I will write a review for this one, but you won't see that review for a while.  I enjoyed it, but I loved the first storyline and the artist/writer that worked on that so much, I can't imagine this will live up to that.  I'll have to wait and see where volume six goes.

Currently Reading
I'm just over halfway through Snow Like Ashes and I totally lost my momentum while reading it.  It's not a bad book, and I plan to finish it this week, but I think I had very high expectations that it just can't live up to.  I'm also reading Bentwhistle the Dragon and a Threat From the Past, which I'm enjoying so far.  I was surprised to find that it's more of an urban fantasy than an epic fantasy.  Manga-wise I'm almost done with Blue Exorcist vol 2.  When I finish the novels I'm in the middle of I'll be starting Shadows Edge and when I finished Blue Exorcist I'll be starting Skywalker Strikes.

Haul
Yeah, okay, I had another really big one because I just kind of lost control of myself.  Sorry, not sorry.

KINDLE EBOOKS
Warlords and Wastrels
This is the third book in a trilogy, so now I have all three and haven't started it yet.  I am eager to begin these because I've heard good things.
Shades of Milk and Honey
This is a book I've had my eye on for a while, and finally caved and got it because I just really want to read these.
GRAPHIC NOVEL
Star Wars Vol. 1: Skywalker Strikes
Can you tell I'm in a bit of a Star Wars mood now?  It's about time that I finally started this series, and I know I'll adore it.  This will be my next read for sure.
MANGA
Blue Exorcist Vol. 2
You're probably thinking, "Sam, you hauled this last week, what are you doing?"  Well, no, I didn't forget that I hauled it, but I didn't realize at the time of hauling it that there was some brown gunk sticking to pages together.  It was impossible to get off and I wasn't going to tear the pages, so I exchanged it with Amazon for a new copy.  When that arrived it came badly damaged, so I exchanged it again, finally getting a copy in perfect condition.  Normally this kind of thing really stresses me out and makes me angry, and at first it did, but then someone from Amazon's customer service contacted me, and she was wonderful.  She was really kind, made sure I really actually wanted to exchange or whether just returning it would be better and was all around really nice.  So, yeah, Amazon has some awesome customer service, which was a wonderful surprise.
HARDCOVERS
The Death of Dulgath
This was a preorder, and I was so excited to get it in the mail!  I have a digital edition as well, because I love this series, but I really wanted a pretty copy for my shelf to sit next to the rest.
The Wrath and the Dawn
I splurged and got this one.  I know I'm going to enjoy it, so I couldn't stop myself.  Shall read this one shortly.
NOT BOOKS
My First Smashbook
A smashbook is pretty similar to a scrapbook, but it comes already bound.  I do plan to post pictures of pages I've finished at the end of every few months, and I'm eager to share what I've done and why I've done them.
Badlands (Deluxe) by Halsey
I've had my eye on this one for a while, but I finally caved and bought it to listen to while I wrapped presents (is that weird??).  I enjoy this one quite a bit and I'm glad I made the purchase.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Official Movie Soundtrack by John Williams
Does this actually surprise anyone?  I preordered this and fell asleep listening to it after seeing the midnight premier.  Well worth every dollar; Star Wars always has good music.

So that was my week and my (bigger than I wanted it to be) haul.  Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Looks like you had a pretty good week! I saw Star Wars twice this weekend as well and loved it a lot. I'm definitely in the Star Wars mood too and have been listening to the soundtrack nonstop. I've had my eye on the graphic novel for a while and will probably cave and pick it up soon. I've heard great things about The Wraith and The Dawn and really want to read that one at some point. I love Halsey's cd and have been listening to it so much since it came out. Hope you enjoy everything!

    1. Star Wars seems to have infected just about everyone and it's wonderful! So far the graphic novel is way better than I thought it would be! Surprisingly accurate to the characters; I can practically hear their voices coming off the page. Halsey's album is really good, I'm so glad I picked it up; also glad to have found someone else who's enjoying it! Happy Holidays and thanks for stopping by!

  2. I've just recently finished Hawkeye, Vol. 1 - #1-11, plus Young Avengers #6 - and it was awesome! Can't wait to continue it!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was FANTASTIC!
