So you're wondering what this is since it's a new, let me tell you. I've been blogging for almost a year now, and one of my suite-mates here has been considering starting a blog. So, it made me think, maybe other people want to start a blog, too. So, here are some tips, and some pros and cons if you're considering.
It's time consuming.
And I mean time consuming. You'll notice I take a lot of breaks because I get overwhelmed. But at the same time, when I put a lot of work into a post it makes me really proud. I often scroll through my blog just to enjoy how it all looks. So, spending a lot of time is both a pain, but also really rewarding.
You learn a lot about what you blog about.
I knew a lot about books before I started, but I know even more now. Whatever you blog about, you'll spend a lot of time in the community and you'll discover there's even more than you thought.
You become part of an awesome community.
Again, whatever you end up writing about you'll be part of a community. And that community will be awesome. Book blogging is a bunch of fun- mostly because of the people that populate it. You'll make friends through comments and spending time around the web.
Getting your blog well-known can be a pain in the ass.
You need to spend a lot of time on other blogs, commenting, spreading the word and such, and on twitter, and other social media aspects. And even then, it may not be enough. You need to stay on top of your game if you want attention (something I've been lacking in lately- my commitment, I mean).
Excellent advice for new bloggers to keep in mind. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! If you have any other tips you think are important, I'd love to know. I'm thinking about writing a follow up post in a few weeks, and your input would be helpful.
DeleteI'd say to keep in mind to blog about what you like, whatever that may be. And to be sure to let your voice come through. :)
DeleteThanks for the input! I totally agree with the voice thing- it's something really hard to adjust to when you start out.
