Mid-Year Book Freakout 2015

So this is a pretty cool tag hosted by A Book So Fathomless.  Click the link and join in on the tag, because it's so much fun!  I saw this on Lauren Stoolfire's blog (great blog, really recommend if you don't already follow her) the other day and couldn't resist!  So, without further ado, here we go...

1. Best Book You've Read So Far in 2015
A really, really hard question.  There are just so many I love that I've read so far.  Two of the most impactful on my reading would have to be The Final Empire and Golden Son, though.  I adored those both very much, as well.

2. Best Sequel You've Read So Far in 2015
Haha, another really hard one.  Since I already mentioned Golden Son, I'm going to have to go with World After which just completely stole my breath the whole time.

3. New Release You Haven't Read Yet, But Want To
Well, the other day I just got the newest Craig Saunders book, Left to Darkness, on my kindle, and I absolutely adore his writing.  To be honest, I'm not a hundred percent sure what this book is even about, just that I love his writing and I need to read this ASAP.

4. Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year
So this is a tie between Queen of Shadows and the new editions of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices.  Suffice it to say I have all of those books pre-ordered and they should all be arriving the same day for one epic book haul.

5. Biggest Disappointment
I haven't had that many disappointments this year, but Stardust is probably the biggest.  I love Neil Gaiman's books, and I loved the movie so it seemed like I would love this one.  Wrong.  Completely wrong.  I didn't hate it, though, I just didn't love it.

6. Biggest Surprise
Here's another tie: The Enchanted, The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, and The Mermaid's Sister all blew me out of the water.  They're all part of a genre I don't read a ton, too, so perhaps that had something to do with it.

7. Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)
This is a slight lie, just because I read Steelheart at the end of last year, but probably Brandon Sanderson.  I've just been devouring his books like crazy, buying book related merchandise, and even met him in person.  So, yeah, you could say I'm a fan.

8. Newest Fictional Crush
I don't know, to be honest.  There are a lot of boys in books that I adore, but no one new who really stands out (my heart will always belong to Dorian Havilliard, though, don't get me wrong).  Perhaps Kana Jarrus (though there's a bit of an age gap there, I'll pretend there isn't) from Star Wars Rebels.

9. Newest Favorite Character
Okay, easy one.  Thor.  The new Thor.  She's a total BAMF and I will defend her to my last breath.  Although now that I think about it, also Wiccan from Young Avengers.  Same thing: I'll fight for him even from the afterlife.  I adore both of these characters so very much.

10. Books That Made You Cry
The Hero of Ages now has some water damage from the amount of tears it caused me to spill.

11. Book That Made You Happy
Jim Butcher's Dresden Files make me super happy in such a fangirl way.  You'll find me giggling the whole time I'm reading them, even if something terrible is happening to Harry and co.

12. Favorite Book to Film Adaptation You Saw This Year
None?  I saw Insurgent and hated it, so that doesn't really count.  I'm super excited for The Martian, The Scorch Trials, and Mockingjay Part 2, but those don't come out until much later.

13. Favorite Review You've Written This Year
So this was more rant than review, but I had a hell of a time writing it.  I even went so far as to pull out contextual evidence of why I hated it!  (Curse you AP English!  You should have been purged from my mind this summer, with the rest of what I learned last year!)  That review would be for Breathe, the only book I think I've given 2 stars to this year.

14. Most Beautiful Book You've Bought So Far
So, technically I pre-ordered it and it hasn't arrived yet, but I'm giving this award to the new box sets of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, both look glorious in their online pictures, so I can only imagine how they appear IRL.

15. What Books Do You Need to Read By the End of the Year
ALL OF THEM!  But seriously, there are some many I need to get to.  I really want to catch up on a lot of the ARC's I have, so that's a top priority now.

So this was a super fun tag!  I encourage you to do it, too!

  1. This looked ridiculously fun so I had to do it! Also, may I ask what you love about Dorian? (writing a post about ToG boys and want opinions lol)

    Here's my Tag :p

    1. That's what I thought too, and it was! (as soon as I finish writing this comment I'll be checking out your own tag! :) )

As for why I adore Dorian? Well, tbh I could probably write several pages of my reasons with in-depth examples but I'll keep it pretty short :) At first I thought him and Celaena were a much better pair than her and Chaol because I though Dorian made her happier. But then, as they drew apart romantically, even though he was still pining for her for a bit he remained a really steady friend. After the events in the middle of CoM when she's rather lost he says he understands and is able to find the Celaena he cares about and they're able to regain their relationship. He knows he won't replace any of the holes her life is filled with, but rather becomes a rock for her.

Outside of his relationship with Celaena he's pretty much the perfect prince. He's smart, funny, and kind. He takes the time to listen to the plights of others. When Nehemia scolds him about what's going on with the slaves he takes this into account and brings up the problem at the council meeting even though he's rather afraid to do so. This shows his character growth- at the start of the series he's more afraid of his father than anything else and not willing to confront him directly, but at the end of Heir of Fire he practically explodes at him.

Speaking of, he's a rather tragic character and I always feel so bad for him. For the most part (so far) he's managed to pick himself up out of two heartbreaks. Whether the events of Heir of Fire break him permanently or not, I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Also, he loves reading, and the way he reads and how he loses himself in his books and just lets them sit around his room in random piles is something I can totally connect to on a spiritual reason.

Hahaha, yeah maybe this comment got away from me. I could go on, still, but I think I've probably tired you out :) I hope this helps with your post!

      Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Ohh thanks for replying! And thanks for letting me know on my blog (since blogger doesn't let me know when you respond). I totally agree about Dorian. He's a fantastic character. While he wasn't my fav with Celaena (let's face it my heart will always be with Rowan), I think he was all around the "best" guy. And I never really liked Chaol.

And yes I totally love how adorably messy he is. Because my room and my office are organized chaos (like so many people). I think it makes him more relate-able. Seriously thanks for your input. Post is scheduled to come out the Sunday before QoS releases :D

  2. Thanks for that great shout out!

World After was brilliant. I need to read Sanderson and the new Thor. The Dresden Files will always make me happy too! I'm looking forward to those movies as well, especially The Martian!

    1. I think World After was my favorite of the trilogy. Sanderson is really a great writer, he could write any genre.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend :)
